Christopher Reeve Foundation Pledges to Continue Legacy
The latest mailing from the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation celebrates the life of its namesake, the late actor and director who was paralyzed after a horseback riding accident in 1995. The organization promises to move forward in dedication to Reeve's "passion for life and determination to find a cure for spinal cord injuries." Unlike the fundraiser's past efforts, which often included greeting cards, address labels or calendars, the latest promotion is plain with the exception of the nonprofit's logo in the return address. Whereas past correspondence was typically authored by Christopher and/or his wife Dana, the new two-page letter comes from Kathy Lewis, president and CEO of the foundation, who describes Reeve as a "true hero" whose "inspiration will live on for many, many years to come." Using quotes from Mr. Reeve throughout the #10 package, recipients are encouraged to embody the spirit and resolve of Reeve through giving. Donors are reminded that without their support the foundation cannot continue to fund vital research or provide services to people living with paralysis. Dana Reeve is quoted in the enclosed insert, highlighting the fundraiser's dedication to research, while at the same time addressing the needs of disabled individuals. The reply form features a note to Kathy Lewis, pledging to continue Christopher Reeve's vital work above the $20/$35/$50/$100/$250/$500/$1,000/other ask ladder.

Alternative Medicine Pioneer Offers "Perfect Health"
Those seeking respite from the stress and illness brought on by their hectic day-to-day lives can find relief in Perfect Health, the new monthly mind, body and spirit newsletter from Deepak Chopra and David Simon (the well-known mind-body physicians and co-founders of The Chopra Center). The charter subscription offer presents a sample issue of the publication surrounded by a wrap detailing specifics of subscribing. Both a reply card and a personal letter from Deepak Chopra, welcoming people to the newsletter and encouraging them to become charter subscribers, are featured on the front of the wrap. These items are separated by a banner with copy reading "Deepak Chopra has arranged for you to receive this FREE COPY of Perfect Health -- the only comprehensive, monthly, mind-body-spirit newsletter of its kind -- direct from The Chopra Center!" A diagram on the wrap's reverse details editorial in the sample issue, calling out "Herbs and recipes to feed the hungry spirit" and "Learn gentle and powerful yoga moves!" As promised, the newsletter is filled with articles on holistic health issues as well as information about conferences being held at The Chopra Center. The hard charter offer for Perfect Health is $24.95 for 12 issues, a 50% discount off the regular subscription rate.

Kenneth Cole Makes Fashion Statement
A recent promotion from fashion designer Kenneth Cole poses an engagingly simple question to customers regarding their style choices. "What's your fashion statement?" is printed on the front of the small black spiral-bound book. Packaged in a 6" x 12" white envelope, the catalog features a limited number of upscale accessories for women, dominated by footwear and handbags. Each page is divided into three separate flip cards that feature individual items on one side and identity classifications on the other. The identities are clever and run from one end of the spectrum to the other. "Dog Person" is matched with a pair of green high-heeled rubber rain boots suitable for dog walking, off set by "Cat Person," which is displayed with a pair of mauve suede slouch boots. In the middle, "Allergic" is paired with stiletto teal pumps placed on the legs of an upside-down model. A wide range of shoe, handbag and accessory styles are displayed in high-fashion photographs with a noticeable absence of prices. A price list, found in the back of the catalog, ranges from $38 for an amethyst brooch to $180 for a leather hobo handbag. Customers who wish to order are directed to KennethCole.com or the catalog's toll-free number.
