PajamaGrams for the Holidays
Looking for the perfect gift for the holidays? PajamaGram's Christmas 2004 catalog suggests you "Send Comfort & Joy!"
The Vermont Teddy Bear Company spin-off features 48 pages of pajamas for men and women, as well as robes, slippers and bath accessories, positioned as gifts for "everyone on your holiday list." Each PajamaGram gift is delivered with a free, gender-specific set of incentives. Men are given a "handsome travel kit," while women receive an organza hatbox, lavender bath tea and a "Do Not Disturb" sign to be hung on a doorknob. An example of how the gift is packaged is presented on the cover. A personalized gift card also accompanies any order. The catalog does not include an order form, so orders must be placed via toll-free telephone number or online.
Domestications Offers "Risk-Free" Holiday Shopping
Home decor catalog Domestications placed a wrap around its "Holiday Super Sale" catalog, urging customers to "Try Us Risk-Free!"
While the words "Super Sale," "Holiday Sale" and "Private Sale" commonly appear on Domestications catalogs, the words "Risk-Free" are a novel sales approach for the mailer. In general, this type of trial language is rare among catalogers and merchandise marketers, and is more traditional in subscription offers. Domestications nonetheless uses it accurately and effectively to characterize a trio of shopping incentives, each designed to minimize holiday hassles: deferred payment for all credit card orders, which it typically offers, free shipping for any order, and free returns, a seasonal perk for dealing with unwanted gifts. The Winter 2004 catalog offers a variety of bedding ensembles, blankets, comforters, throws, pillows, mattress pads, tablecloths and window coverings. Most items, even those not on sale, are priced with 99-cent endings, encouraging a discount psychology among shoppers. The final nine pages of the 60-page book offer seasonal bedding, tablecloths and porcelain dinnerware with poinsettia, Christmas tree, holly berry and related designs.
Advent Mailing from Catholic Child
Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Catholic Child mailed an Advent - Christmas 2004 edition featuring a diverse selection of religious-themed books, collectibles, dolls, board games, videos and DVDs for Catholic youth, "toddler thru teen."
Unlike many other gift catalogers whose holiday editions feature secular imagery associated with the time of year, Catholic Child displays a Magnetic Advent Calendar ($39.95) on the cover of the 11 x 7" book. The calendar consists of a nativity scene painted on a magnetic surface and enclosed in a wooden frame, which contains numbered boxes for the 24 days of December leading up to Christmas Day. Catholic Child encourages shoppers to use the compartments for a little something extra aside from the wooden magnetic figurines, whatever "is part of your family's Advent tradition." Other Christmas items can be found in the back of the 36-page catalog under the heading "Happy Birthday Jesus." These include nativity set cookie cutters ($10.95), a glow-in-the-dark advent calendar and sticker book ($6.95) and a paperback titled "St. Nicholas The Wonder Worker" ($8.95). In addition to the seasonal items, the catalog also offers gifts for the many stages of a child's Catholic development, from First Communion to Confirmation. Orders over $75 are rewarded with the Catholic Family Album, described as a "perfect place to create a pictorial diary of the sacramental journeys of our family."
